Abstract
Sail to Venice. Guide / Rina Sherman: Breviary of A Vision, Tome lX
The hypnotic lure in this study of Venice, lie in the expanses of tidal-flats covering a delta of rivers of various depths running through them, the basis from which a network of waterways was developed to provide a means of communication across the lagoon between the mainland, the city of Venice and the Adriatic Sea. The registers of inquiry in this study include decay, erosion, navigation, melancholia and the elixir procured by breathing sea air at the level of the water and the results are expressed in poems, photography and slow cinema video short forms.
Sail to Venice. Guide is a three-part practical manual on how what one has experienced and learned informs why one seeks to know (more) and shapes what is made of the data that is collected. It is composed of The Text, The Work, and The List of Works.
Enough Time
A tiny red light ignites; a hand written letter rolls out of a machine.
We had come to call our correspondence ‘fax shock’.
The present. Patent. Unsounded.
Almost no one will ever get enough of time.
(…)
On the sighs of the bora into the Adriatic Sea,
into the lagoon past the Isola di Sant’Andrea, the Isola La Certosa,
to Venice.
Despair of loss, hope for love, in grief,
muster up courage to freefall as do survivors with none to win.
Sail to frail, unending Venice.
